Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Callam

Dear second grade families,

My name is Conor Callam, and this year I have the pleasure of being your child’s teacher. Here is a little background information on me and my experience.

I grew up in Ann Arbor and attended the University of Michigan as an undergraduate, majoring in English Language Arts. After I graduated, I worked for a few years in Chicago, where I discovered, through volunteer tutoring, that I have a passion for working with young people and helping them realize their potential.

In 2020, I completed my teaching master’s degree training at the University of Michigan’s Elementary Education Graduate Program. My coursework included both virtual and in person teaching experiences in a variety of classrooms, from 1st grade through middle school. I completed my student teaching in a fourth grade classroom in the Ann Arbor Public Schools system. I’ve taught 2nd grade since graduation.

I am particularly interested in fostering a learning environment that prioritizes student social and  emotional well-being, to ensure academic success. When I teach I want my students to feel confident and comfortable in the classroom. I also want to make sure that all students in my class are meeting the learning goals and growing socially and academically. In order to do that, I use data from my observations during lessons, as well as written assessments to help guide my daily lesson planning and continually improve my teaching practice.

I will be sure to communicate with you regularly as the year goes on, as I want families to share in their child’s progress and success throughout the year. If you have any questions or concerns as the year progresses, please feel free to reach out to me.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy playing and watching sports, reading, and spending time with my wife, Amanda.

I look forward to working with your child and making this school year a special one!

Sincerely,

Mr. Callam
